SANKYO High Torque AD/Alpha Series Rotary Indexer

 

SANKYO is the worldwide leader in rotary indexing technology and continues to develop innovative motion control. Our core indexing system is based upon the roller gear cam mechanism, a simple combination of a globoidal cam and cam followers in a precision machined turret. Advantages

• Up to 200 cycles per minute in continuous or 67 cycles per minute with on demand duty cycle
• ±15 to ±30 arc seconds angular indexing accuracy (housing size dependent, see chart below)
• ±7.5 to ±10 arc seconds repetitive accuracy
• Totally maintenance-free and sealed for life (no belts)
• 4 years warranty
• Operates in forward or reverse directions (can be used as an oscillator)
• 2 through 32 standard output stops with others are available

Input
• Large shaft diameter & long cam length eliminates deflection during heavy loading to maintain positioning accuracy
• Large shaft bearings support high speeds, larger diameters rotate less revolutions with more torque capacity
• Cam is shimmed between bearing/housing to eliminate endplay, maintains accuracy
• Hardened cam material reduces wear & surface flaking for longevity positioning accuracy

Output
• Standard units average ±9 arc second positioning accuracy with high accuracy units available
• Industries largest cam diameters, high torque capacity for tooling crash survival (~30% larger)
• Stationary through bore offers supply lines or wire routing & includes tolerance for bearing mounting
• Stationary flange for mounting inspection tooling, part handlers or a riser above the indexing dial plate
• Offset bearings support large bending moment capacity for unbalanced loading

Housing
• Maintenance free for life & seal with oil bath for high speed applications
• Cast iron housing thermally expands at the same rate of the internal components to maintain accuracy
• Housing & motor drive mounts in any angle, maintenance free
• 8 housing size options, no extra cost for over-sizing with a large range of sizes

Motor Drive
• Geared motor drive is normally within the indexer height, no mounting plate burnouts or parallels
• Standard 230 & 460 volt dual winding motors are versatile
• 2 motor power options for each housing size, no extra cost for over-sizing with a large range of sizes

Output Flange Design

• Standard stationary output through bore for routing air lines, plumbing, wiring, push rod or drive shaft
• Output bore includes precision tolerance diameter for bearing mounting for a drive shaft
• Optional riser with through bore can mount to the stationary flange
• Optional riser works with output torque limiting clutch (see TAD Series clutch below)
• Dual tapered bearing design has large bending moment capacity
• A second stationary dial plate can be mounted above the indexing dial plate to mount inspection tooling

Induction Motor & Variable Frequency Drive Option

• Standard geared motors include dual voltage windings for 230 & 460, 3-phase, IP44 rated
• Optional fail-safe spring type brake motor for emergency stop applications (mid-cycle stopping or power outage)
• Optional IP65 wash-down with epoxy paint
• Optional reducer only with C or IEC frame motor mounting adapter
• All geared motor drives mount in 90° increments on either side of the rotary indexer
• All are maintenance-free (except for brake motor types)
• VFD controller voltage options are 120/1 phase, 220/1 phase, 230/3 phase or 460/3 phase

Servo Motor & Inline or Right Angle Reducer Option

• Servo motor with an inline or right angle reducer drive can cycle frequently (~0.1 seconds between cycles)
• Servo motor can match the motor(s) on the rest of your machine for minimal inventory levels
• Servo motors & reducers can be IP67 rated wash-down with epoxy paint
• All servo motor drives mount on either side of the rotary indexer
• Servo motor model numbers will be sized & recommended by SANKYO for your convenience
• Servo drives are dimensionally the same size as our AR series (AR Series dimensions-catalog link)

Cycle on Demand Timing Cam Option

• Optional timing cam proximity switch provides a signal to the PLC to stop the indexer motor
• Standard PNP format, IP67 proximity type switch has detachable cable (NPN is available)
• Timing cam flag is adjustable for advance signals (Timing Cam Setup procedures download)
• Up to 2 complete sets with proximity type or 3 sets with photo eye type
• Standard steel painted cover protects from false signals & human interface

TAD Series Output Torque Limiting Clutch Option

• Optional TAD series output torque limiting clutch protects the indexer
• TAD clutch features easy adjust torque range in just seconds, no disassembly (TAD Clutch Setup download)
• Works with optional stationary flange riser (shown below)
• Optional overload detection proximity switch mounts on the indexer stationary flange (shown below)
• Detent ball design responds quickly to protect the indexer from damage
• Springs can be changed for new torque range (click here for more information)

Why Sankyo
We make our own internal components, the rotary indexer globoidal cam & needle bearing cam followers are optimized to the largest size for each configuration. Sankyo components are ~30% larger than the competition.

Our success is simple; larger diameters transfer more torque & rotate fewer revolutions. More surface contact & fewer revolutions have less wear to inherently extend the service life. Smaller units perform the same task with less cost.
